# It all harks back to "The Promised Land" thesis.
The Palestine area was promised to the nomadic Israelites, by God, say
the Jews.
As there is no evidence that "God" (Yahweh/God/Allah) exists, this means
the Jews promised the land to themselves - even if deluded otherwise.
Why Palestine? Well, all other land areas, back in Biblical times, were
already occupied by large powerful civilisations.
The Israelites, being descended from Abraham, were actually Iraqis, as
Abraham came from Ur, which is in modern-day Iraq.
In summary, the post-WWII colonial occupation of Palestine by Exodus
Jews is complicated by the Promised Land syndrome, whence the inability to
compromise with the local aborigines, the Palestinians (descended from the
Philistines).
Most colonial nations have come to some settlement with their own
aborigines, and resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian dispute would be
facilitated if viewed solely in this context.
